As your Councilmember, my priorities are:
Strengthening our Communities
Collaborating with community-based organizations to offer job seekers from historically underserved communities access to apprenticeship programs and training opportunities to further develop a skilled and trained workforce.
Advocating to reduce outsourcing of expensive contracts for City services and increase local job opportunities.
Identifying new revenue sources to increase City employees’ wages and boost hiring to relieve overworked departments.
Securing increased funding for local small businesses and community-based organizations through state and federal grants.
Creating and sustaining a pipeline to long-term City employment.
Improving Our Quality of Life
Carrying on the legacy of the San Diego Black Arts and Culture District by continuing to invest in the district and work with local artists to expand public art and cultural assets.
Investing in the care and maintenance of our existing neighborhood parks, libraries, and recreational facilities and exploring funding sources for new infrastructure and staffing.
Creating long-term, sustainable, affordable housing options for all San Diegans.
Leading community cleanups and prioritizing frequent road repairs and maintenance.
Investing in assistance for first-time homebuyers and housing-burdened renters.
Focusing on cross-government solutions to homelessness, including permanent supportive housing and wraparound services.
Keeping our Neighborhoods Safe
Advocating for investment in public safety through environmental design by prioritizing activities such as streetlight repair and graffiti abatement throughout Council District Four.
Building on current programs to provide youths in areas prone to acts of gang violence with creative outlets, mentorship, jobs, and education opportunities.
Working to improve community relations with our first responders.
Restructuring city programs to increase access to job placement, paid internships, training, and targeted services for teenage and adult job seekers.
